The Matrix Movie was released back in the year 1999. It starred Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne and was directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski. The movie is known for its action twist and science fiction plots.

The film was a super hit, and its popularity made way for two sequels, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.” And now we have already started to hear rumors about its fourth sequel. According to the rumors, the next Matrix movie is all set to feature both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in their respective roles.

  1. It was initially a comic

The idea for The Matrix was started out as an idea for a comic book. Wachowskis hired two artist friends to create a 600-page comic of The Matrix’s script.

The film’s costume designer Kym Barrett, who is known for making sleek clothing for the Matrix, once said that the costumes in the movie look expensive, but they were made on a low budget. 

  1. Custom-made sunglasses

The trendy sunglasses worn by people featured in The Matrix movie were specially designed for the movie. Richard Walker from Blinde Design Project designed the sunglasses.

  1. Will Smith was the first choice for the film

In a 2019 YouTube video, Will Smith said that he turned down the role of Neo in the Matrix movie, which eventually went to Keanu Reeves. Smith turned down the movie in favor of doing the “Wild Wild West” movie.

  1. Mrs. Smith auditioned for the role of Trinity

Jada Pinkett-Smith, the wife of Will Smith, in an interview, said that she was initially auditioned to play the role of Trinity in the film. But they both didn’t have any chemistry.

  1. The film won many academy awards

When The Matrix movie was released, it gained worldwide reception and was loved by both audience and critics for its stunning effects and fantastic action scenes.

At the 2000 Oscars, the film received awards for sound, sound-effects editing, film editing, and visual effects. It won the award in every category it was nominated in.

The film was scheduled to be completed in 90 days, but it ended up taking more than 100 days, according to the members of the film crew.

  1. There was a reason why Neo barely kicks in the fight scenes

Just before the start of martial arts training for the film, Keanu Reeves has to undergo neck surgery and had to wear a neck brace. It was difficult for Keanu to kick while playing Neo; that is why he is seen barely kicking someone in fight scenes.

  1. The movie was shot in Australia to keep the production cost low

In an effort to keep the production cost low, and under the budget of the film, the movie was shot in Australia for a budget of $60 million. According to Warner Brothers executive, the movie would have cost nearly $95 million if it had been shot in the United States.
